We travel south to savour a memorable luncheon stop at Tongariro Lodge, situated beside the river. If we’re lucky en-route, there will be views of Mt Ruapehu’s still snowy peaks and glimpses of baby lambs and daffodils as Spring starts to make her presence felt. After lunch, we travel down the country to conclude our first day at the Copthorne Palmerston North. Unpack, relax for a bit then join the group for happy hour at the bar. Dinner at the hotel’s popular Jimmy Cooks Restaurant.
Saturday 26th September 12th DAY 2 B, L, D
Today we’ll be crossing to the rural river flats of the Wairarapa plains and stopping off in Masterton. After a leg stretch and toilet break, we’ll be making our way along the edge of Lake Wairarapa to our lunch destination – the luxurious Wharekauhau Lodge overlooking Palliser Bay. Our arrival at this “heaven on earth” luxury lodge, will be marked by an exciting tour and talk about this unique farm and estate. Lunch here is guaranteed to be a memorable treat of outstanding local fare prepared by the lodge’s skilled chefs. No time to linger, we have a show to see! In Wellington city, we check into the Bay Plaza Hotel and have an early buffet dinner, before our big night out.
WOW, 2020 sees Show Director Malia Johnston return, teaming up with more creatives and guest artists than ever before who are crafting a show which will be a true explosion of multiple artforms. Expect to journey through a world inspired by the Elizabethan Era, find yourself mesmerised as the stage explodes in a visual symphony of colour in the Monochromatic world, and be amazed as we see the human body used as an architectural canvas in the Architecture Section.
Sunday 27th September DAY 3 B,MT,L D
Departing Wellington with the colours and bedazzlement of WOW still lingering in our minds we head north to Napier via the Saddle Road, stopping for morning tea along the way and then onwards to arrive at the grand home of Peter and Dianne Harris -Oruawharo Homestead & Garden. Built-in 1879 of Matai, Totara and Kauri, and Italianate in style, this iconic Hawkes Bay residence is in the process of been painstakingly restored to its former glory and is an unforgettable experience. A beautiful backdrop for our elegant high-tea styled luncheon accompanied by sandwiches, scones and sweet treats. We’ll take a tour, and hear more of this property’s fascinating past and its exciting future. Mid-afternoon we hit the road once again and head for Napier where for tonight we’ll be guests of Scenic Te Pania Hotel. There’s some free time to explore the surrounding art deco delights of Napier and then return to the hotel to join our travelling companions for a social get-together and buffet dinner.
