DAY ONE                                                                  L, D

We fly into Claris, where we meet  Steve, our local storyteller, entertainer and driver-guide, then head south to explore Medlands and Tryphena. We visit the Milk, Honey & Grain Museum, The Community Art Gallery and stop for lunch at Pa Beach Café. We visit Shoal Bay Pottery and take an afternoon tea break at Medlands Beach, where you can stretch your legs along one of the island's most famous stretches of ocean paradise. Then we're off to our accommodation. Great Barrier Lodge sits on park-like grounds beside beautiful Whangaparapara Harbour. Take time to settle in and explore the lodge before joining your fellow travellers for dinner at the restaurant & bar.

DAY TWO                                                                 B, L, D

After breakfast this morning, we wander down to the pier where we board 'Sundancer' for our spectacular coastal cruise. We look at the old Kauri Sawmill & Whaling Station sites before heading up the west coast & through the wondrous Broken Isles. Once through the Man O' War Passage, we enjoy a tasty onboard lunch in the sheltered waters of the beautiful Port FitzRoy Harbour. After lunch, we disembark Sundancer & visit the Glenfern Sanctuary to enjoy an informative presentation about the sanctuary. After the presentation talk, the group will be transferred to Sunset Rock for a stunning panoramic view of Port Fitzroy Harbour and beyond. We travel back down the east coast by bus, enjoying great views of Rakitu Island, The Windy Canyon and Pacific Ocean Panoramas. We stop for a cuppa-and-cake at Awana to enjoy an optional walk along this spectacular east coast surf beach.

DAY THREE                                                            B, L, D

This morning we visit Jacque's Haven… a literal bird and bee paradise! After a guided walk around this beautiful property, we get to sample Jacque's top-notch manuka honey… which you'll be able to purchase at a very visitor friendly rate. Today we have lunch at Angsana Thai Restaurant, where we can explore the lovely grounds, local wildlife and a small Thai style gift shop. After lunch, we enjoy a pleasant bushwalk along the beginning of the Hot Springs Track. The first 10-minutes of the trail meanders through a stunning 'Gt Barrier Island Nikau Palm' grove… keep your eye out for the wild orchids that grow along the track.

DAY FOUR                                                              B, L

Steve picks us up this morning, and we set off to explore the Okupu Harbour area. We visit Okupu Beach to check out the ancient Pohutukawa trees and then tour around to the 'forgotten wharf' at Blind Bay... a very scenic route with lovely old stone bridges and deeply gouged streams. We enjoy our lodge supplied picnic lunch on the shores of a privately-owned beach before making our way back to 'civilization'. For the adventurous, take a 'wind in the hair' joy ride on 'Crazyhorse'… Steve's Harley style three-wheeled motorbike. We visit the Pigeon Post for gifts or souvenirs and refreshments at My Fat Puku Café before checking in for our flights home.

The order of activities listed may change due to unforeseen circumstances such as weather due to the unpredictable nature of being on an Island but half the fun, of course.
