DAY ONE                                                                  L, D

We fly into Claris Airport, meet our local guide, and then board the bus heading off to explore the island's southern end. We visit the beautiful Medlands Beach, stroll, and enjoy a picnic lunch at the campground. We then travel over the forested hills, arriving in Tryphena. We take a scenic drive around the bay, stopping along the way to visit Shoal Bay Pottery and taking a short walk around to the Tryphena Wharf, a great place to catch the occasional sighting of local sea life. We then drive the Cape Barrier Road to the lookout offering panoramic views of the coastline. After exploring Tryphena and its surroundings, we will head to our accommodation. We are staying at the idyllic Sunset Waterfront Lodge located right by the water with a gorgeous view from your Chalets. After settling in we'll make our way out to dine at a local Restaurant off-site

DAY TWO                                                                 B, L, D

After breakfast this morning we tour up the island to the secluded and sheltered harbour of Whangaparapara. Here we board ‘Sundancer’ for our spectacular coastal cruise. We look at the old Kauri Sawmill and Whaling Station sites before heading up the west coast & through the stunning Broken Isles. Once through the Man O’ War Passage, we enjoy a delicious onboard lunch in the sheltered waters of the beautiful Port Fitzroy Harbour.  After lunch, we disembark Sundancer and take a short walk to visit the Glenfern Sanctuary - where we enjoy an informative presentation about the sanctuary, which is home for kaka parrots, wood pigeons, banded rail etc. After the presentation talk, the group will be transferred to Sunset Rock for a fantastic panoramic view of Port Fitzroy Harbour and beyond. We travel back down the east coast by bus, enjoying great views of Rakitu Island, The Windy Canyon and the Pacific Ocean Panoramas.

DAY THREE                                                            B, L, D

This morning we visit Jacque's Haven… a literal bird and bee paradise! After a guided walk around this beautiful property, we get to sample Jacque's top-notch manuka honey. From here we'll make our way to the local Thai restaurant Angsana, have our lunch then make our way to a lovely 15 minute flat walk at the head of the Kaitoke Wetlands. The Nikau palms are something to behold along this trail.

After our walk we travel back to Claris and to the famous open all year Museum Milk, Honey & Grain Museum where you can gain insight into the islands rich early settler history. No doubt you will have worked up quite a thirst by now so our next visit will be welcome relief. Aotea Brewery is a small boutique brewery with big ideas and a wonderful philosophy of sustainability befitting the Islands ethos. We will learn of their beginning and plans for the future whilst enjoying sampling of the local brews on offer. accessing it for the locals and tourist alike. These guys don't just walk the walk they talk it to.

As the day comes to an end we'll head back to the lodge to relax and perhaps a swim at Leighs favorite beach of choice.

DAY FOUR                                                              B, L

Sadly today's our day to go home. We pack up then visit Puriri & Schooner Bays this morning before travelling onto Okupu Beach. Stopping for a picnic lunch (location decided by the weather) and checking out the ancient Pohutukawa trees, we then drive around to the 'forgotten wharf' at Blind Bay... a very scenic route with lovely old stone bridges and deeply gullied streams. Before long, it will be time to make our way back to 'civilization'. Before departing, we'll visit the Pigeon Post for gifts/souvenirs and tea/coffee etc, at My Fat Puku Café before checking in for our flights home. After we are all back on dry land, we'll drive back to Tauranga, stopping for dinner and comfort stop along the way.
