Awhitu Heritage & Steam Train Luxury Escape at Castaways Oceanview Resort

Itinerary

DAY ONE                                   L ,D 

Let's escape for a night of indulgence as we leisurely meander our way to the Franklin Region stopping for a morning tea along the way. We'll continue our journey to a lovely new venue, Addenbrooke Gardens and Villa. Here we'll be treated to a guided tour of the lush gardens amidst the vibrant flowers and pretty villa. Whilst onsite we'll enjoy a catered lunch, before continuing onto our destination of the day. Mid-afternoon we will arrive at our luxurious accommodation, the Castaways Hotel. This stunning resort boasts breathtaking views of the rugged west coast ocean and rolling hills. You will have some free time to do a little beach combing as you explore the beach or perhaps just soak up the views from your room or the on-site restaurant before meeting for social hour and dinner.

DAY TWO                                  B, MT, L,  

After a hearty breakfast at the hotel's restaurant, we'll set off to explore Awhitu Peninsula. We will drive the roads to enjoy the views and then visit the Pollok Arts and Craft Co-Op. This is a funky local gallery of work from artists of the area. From here we will travel south to Waiuku to the train station!! Then, it's all aboard for an exciting 2-2.5-hour steam train experience, including a stop at Pukeoware Glenbrook Workshops and morning tea. We'll then head to The Kentish Historical Hotel for a fascinating talk by Bill Deed about the history of the Hotel, and Awhitu Peninsula, followed by lunch. After we have soaked in the atmosphere of this iconic building we will hop back in the bus and take the leisurely drive through the countryside via Tuakau, Pukekawa and Churchill to return you home.
